Interesting Postcard
I chose the post card depicting the Overseas highway on the way to the Florida Keys. The postcard resembles the little island Pigeon Key, which marks the halfway point of the 7 mile bridge. Since I was a little boy, my parents have held a time share at a resort that sits at the end of Duval Street, Key West. Every summer or long weekend we would pack up the car and make the long tedious 6 hour drive, down to Miami and through the Florida Keys. With the crossing of each bridge, I was getting further away from home and closer to being on island time. For 19 years I have looked out across the endless ocean crossing the 7 mile bridge and it never ceases to amaze me. This postcard signals the official start of vacation. "One hour longer until I'm in paradise", I told myself as I waited restlessly. The Florida Keys was always my happy place, my place of ultimate relaxation, the place that I could ponder my thoughts without a care in the world and become one with nature. I can relate to this, because in seventh grade I went on a trip to Big Pine Key with my class and I realized that even though I'm still in the same country and even the same state, I was just far enough to miss my family. Unfortunately the 7 mile bridge was also the turning point back into reality on the way home. The scenery along the Overseas Highway cannot even be portrayed in a post card. I can relate to the postcard because the writer is addressing his mother, explaining that he is obviously enjoying his vacation but he misses her. I can relate to this, because in seventh grade I went on a trip to Big Pine Key with my class and I realized that even though I'm still in the same country and even state, I was just far enough to miss my family. This may look like a typical Florida post card, with palm trees and clear brilliant skies, but the paradise beyond this bridge means so much more to me.
