Out of all the postcards available
I chose the Buttermilk Falls, North Watergap, PA postcard because there was
something so familiar about the picture. Once I got a better look of the
painting, I realized that it looks a lot like the lake in Jasper, GA where my
family has a mountain house. The familiarity really called to me and reminded
me of cool nights in the mid fall. After I clicked on it, I saw the writing and
it made me laugh. The back said, “Stella, sorry I don’t remember your address.
This rough life is killing me. Charlie.” I thought it was funny because why
would someone send another person a postcard if they can’t even remember where
to send it? Charlie did put an address, but who is to say if it is actually
Stella’s address? I find this particular one interesting because of all things
to write on a postcard, that was what Charlie chose. He also chose to write in pencil and it looks
like the pencil is fading quite a bit. Well, it was stamped in 1938 so it is
pretty old. Also, on the top left hand corner there are two creases like it had
been shoved somewhere. There are various stains too that look like dirt or food
and maybe even some ink droplets. I want to think that this postcard did make
it back to Stella and the reason why it is bent and stained is because she took
it wherever she went.
