Digital Technology and Writing

Digital technology has truly shaped the way in which we understand what writing is. The truth is that the majority of us choose to send that one text, Facebook message, or email before manually writing anything out mostly because it is fast and easy.  For starters, this goes to show how lazy we have become. The fact that digital technology has been revolutionized to incorporate tools such as spell and grammar check, goes to show how much we rely on technology and use it as our personal crutch.  Having prior knowledge of some of the basic rules of writing is no longer a requirement that is needed. Now, we have digital technology  to do it for us instead.  Consequently, digital technology also  takes away from the personal value that comes from receiving a handwritten letter, or postcard. The fact that someone devoted their time and effort into crafting and composing the piece, demonstrates how personal, powerful, and meaningful writing can really be. Unfortunately, digital writing and handwritten writing are two very different things. However, the scary thing is that they fulfill the same purpose.
