In my opinion, I do believe digital technology changed
how we understand what writing is. Just like when we are discussing everyday
writing and what it encompasses, there is a gap between if a letter is just the
same as an email or if school work is not every day writing like a checklist
would be. If both contain the same text, is it truly the same thing? We would
never agree on this because there are truth to both sides. We have to keep in
mind that the fact still remains the same, we perceive them differently no
matter what our stance is. A letter is deemed more personal while an email is
not. We would then get into the argument of informal vs formal. In the end,
technology does influence our thoughts and ideas of what writing is and what it
involves. As we go back in time, letters, postcards, thank you cards, etc. was
much more evident than it is now. With the growth of technology, we will
continue to lose the meaning of writing without probably being aware of it. Keep in
mind, there is more to writing then texting or typing, as well as the meanings
that come with each.
