digital technology

I believe that digital technology has most definitely impacted the world we live in today. Being in a generation that relies so heavily on technology, people communicate through social media and shorthanded text messages. Instead of using proper English and punctuation, often times people use abbreviations, acronyms or shorthand. In terms of change and how they communicate, instead of personal interaction, handwritten letters or notes, or even phone calls, people now use text messages or Facebook messages to communicate with one another. It is common to see the same acronyms used in all forms of digital technology such as “lol”, “brb”, and “omg”,This is good and bad at the same time. It is good because as humans, we tend to find as many shortcuts as we can and by shortening the time it takes to get a message across, it works to our benefit to use that time elsewhere. It is bad because we get so lazy and impersonal; it becomes a means and an excuse to lack interaction and personal depth with those who are even close to us. By using technology to communicate, meaning, emotion and connection are lost. As the world is today, letters, cards or any handwritten sentiment is considered extremely personal because it shows someone devoted time into composing and handwriting their thoughts as well as sending them in a way that is not over the internet. With the growth of technology, I believe that people will continue to lose the connection with others that they have and it will impact how people communicate forever but also make life easier.
