Digital Technology

I personally believe digital technology distracts what we believe writing is. Generally when we use technology to write and communicate our writing is much less formal and contains numerous mistakes, slang terms, and abbreviations. When writing a letter to a friend, the formatting and style is much more formal so letters seem much less like an everyday form of writing, as compared to technological writing. On the other hand, many people probably would not classify digital technology (text messages or Facebook posts, for example) as writing because of their informal style and lack of professionalism. Digital technology can do so many things to improve our writing; spellcheck, online thesauruses, and green lines in Word that signify grammar mistakes all make writing much easier to do online, and less care has to be put into the writing. With this being said, I believe digital technology has made us lazy when it comes to writing, and has provided us with many cheats and ways to short-hand all of our online writing. Our idea of writing has transformed from strictly handwriting to typing on all forms of technology.
