We are in a digital revolution and most of society does not realize
this. A revolution means change and an open mind and that is what society seems
to have, especially when it comes to writing and technology. Writing has essentially
been the same for thousands of years; it has just evolved and grown into a more
elaborate practice. I disagree with the statement that Digital technology has
changed what we think the definition of writing is. I also do not think that it
changes our understanding of writing. Throughout history, writing has stayed
writing. Regardless of the amount of complex vocabulary and new uses with
words, it is essentially still the same as it was thousands of years ago in a
cave. The new digital revolution has certainly changed writing into making it a
more less social, and more easier way for the average person to communicate
with someone near or far. Without the personalization and signature markings of
handwritten pieces, people may believe that it is losing its value. But,
overall I think it is essentially the same and you still have the option of
going digital or classis regardless.
Digital technology totally changes the way we understand writing. Today in modern day society, technology has become a "norm." But, although technology brings a lot of positive aspects to society, I believe in the case of writing, it has confused people and made the definition of what we consider to be writing, much more broad and possibly confusing. Writing is much different now then compared to thirty yeas ago. Writing is no longer a concrete, scholarly work, but instead people communicate in a much quicker, less formal ways. Slang words, punctuation and grammar mistakes, are just a few of the things that kids will grow up understanding as "writing." The days of pen and paper letters are now replaced by texts and emails which can take away from the personal aspect that writing used to have. I believe the importance society puts on technology, whether its through Facebook, Twittier, or texting and emailing is causing the new generation of future leaders to view writing as a unimportant, because they don't get the chance to understand the importance of something as simple as a good, old fashioned letter. Although the actual definition and meaning behind writing has not changed, the way it is viewed has totally evolved with the help of digital technology.
